Arsenal have officially confirmed that former Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze has joined Mikel Arteta’s backroom staff as they look to add another coach to Arteta’s backroom staff after assistant coach Carlos Cuesta left to take over at Parma last month.

Heinze was a team-mate of Arteta’s at Paris Saint-Germain during the 2001-02 season and will now link up with the Spaniard as his assistant.
The 47-year-old joins Albert Staufenberg, Nico Jowers and Inaki Cana, who have assisted Arteta since 2021.

Heinze has previously managed Godoy Cruz, Argentinos Junior and Vélez Sarsfield before spending six months in charge of Atlanta United in 2021.
His most recent job was a year-long head coach role at Newell’s, the club where he began his playing career.
Heinze brings with him a wealth of experience from his playing days. Having won league titles with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Marseille,
Heinze was also part of Argentina’s 2004 Olympic gold medal squad and has made 72 appearances for the Albiceleste, including two Copa América runners-up finishes.
